FAQs

What are the different types of acne treatments available?

There are prescription oral and topical medications as well as in-office procedures like facials and chemical peels that can help to improve acne-prone skin. Everyone responds differently to treatments so it can be trial and error to determine which is best, but we find chemical peels in office can be quite beneficial to help clear out the pores, help acne scars fade faster, and improve the overall appearance of the skin. Hydrafacial has also been studied in acne-prone patients and it has shown dramatic improvements for these patients as well.

How do professional acne treatments differ from over-the-counter products?

Medical grade skincare and professional acne treatments for at-home use have higher amounts of active ingredients in the products so that one can see a discernible change in their skin. At SkinPerfected we have done our homework to ensure the products we carry and suggest will have.

How long does it take to see results from acne treatments?

It usually takes about 6-8 weeks to see at least 50% improvement in one’s acne. It can take up to three months as well to start to see the acne marks from prior breakouts fade so one needs to be patient with the process! Acne is a journey and healthy skin does not happen overnight.

What age is acne the worst?

Acne can affect individuals of all ages, but it is most commonly associated with adolescence and early adulthood. For many people, acne tends to peak during the teenage years due to hormonal changes associated with puberty. However, acne can also persist into adulthood for some individuals throughout their twenties, thirties, and beyond.

What is inside a pimple?

A pimple typically contains a combination of sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Inside the pimple, the trapped mixture of oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria creates an ideal environment for inflammation, resulting in the characteristic redness, swelling, and pus associated with acne lesions.

What foods trigger acne?

While the relationship between diet and acne is complex and varies from person to person, certain foods may trigger or exacerbate acne in some individuals. It's essential to pay attention to your body's response to different foods and consult with a healthcare professional or dermatologist if you suspect a link between your diet and acne breakouts.

Do people with acne age better?

While having acne can be challenging, there is some evidence to suggest that individuals with acne may age more slowly and have fewer wrinkles later in life. However, it's important to note that individual factors such as genetics, lifestyle choices, and skincare habits also play significant roles in skin aging, and acne alone is not a guarantee of youthful-looking skin in later years.

Is dry or oily skin better?

Dry skin tends to lack sufficient moisture and may feel tight, flaky, or rough, but oily skin leads to a shiny or greasy appearance, enlarged pores, and increased acne development. Ultimately, the key to healthy, balanced skin is proper skincare and hydration, regardless of whether your skin type is dry, oily, or combination.
